National Pump Services Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Adam Monea took out the overall win on board his KX450F at the 3rd round of the 2014 Monster Energy MX Nationals at Wonthaggi, Victoria yesterday.
Monea entered his local event feeling extremely confident, knowing countless laps on the Wonthaggi circuit would serve him well.
In the first of two 30 minute races, he was able to set himself up for a successful charge for the lead on lap 15, however a crash shortly after however put him back to 3rd place where he would eventually finish. He then overcame a mid-pack start in the second 30 minute race, to work his way up to 3rd place-including passing defending series champion Matt Moss. Monea’s 3-3 results were enough to give the NPS Monster Energy Kawasaki his first ever premier MX1 class overall victory.
“I’ve been waiting and I’ve been working hard for the overall for a while and I know I’ve been ready for it so to get it here at my home race and share it with family and friends is awesome. It’s really special! I am a little bit disappointed that I didn’t take advantage of the opportunity I had when I got in the race lead in the first race. That would’ve helped the round win come a lot easier but at the end of the day I’m on the top step and that’s all that matters!” – Adam Monea
Jake Moss again showed incredible speed in Wonthaggi, however a crash in the first race relegated him to 17th place. In the second race, he challenged hard for the win, finishing 2nd.
“I’m a bit disappointed. It was crunch time and I felt I had to win but I struggled a bit from having not ridden for two weeks because of a sore tail bone and things didn’t really go to plan. 2nd in the last race was a good rebound though. I’ll have a week off now and really heal up properly before I start training again for Murray Bridge. That’s a track that I love so hopefully I’ll get it onto the top step there.” – Jake Moss
Round Four of the Monster Energy MX Nationals series will be held in Murray Bridge, South Australia on May 18. For more information go towww.mxnationals.com.au.
