Monster Energy launch full assault on V8 Supercars Championship with rising star, Cam Waters
Monster Energy has taken the wraps off its 2016 V8 Supercars Championship contender with Cameron Waters handed the reins to the #6 Monster Energy PRA Ford today.
This marks the first season a fully-branded Monster Energy V8 Supercar will contest the main game series as Waters steers the 2015 championship winning chassis around all 16 circuits in 2016 under the Monster Energy Racing banner.
Waters has been hand picked by Monster Energy Racing who consider him a future championship contender and with firm reason after a successful 2015 season saw the Mildura local win the V8 Supercars development series with an impressive bag of 10 race wins.
With complete backing from Monster Energy the 21-year-old will make his fulltime V8 Supercars debut at this weekend’s opening round of the championship at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.
“I’m pumped to get out there and unleash this beast and can’t wait to officially start my main game career in Adelaide this weekend,” said Waters.
“This car looks mean and to have Monster Energy onboard as my first major sponsor in V8 Supercars is incredible.
“The brand brings so much to sport all over the world and to be aligned with Monster Energy is a huge boost for me and the entire team at Prodrive Racing Australia.
“I’m only 21 so my goal is to learn and gain experience as I look forward toward the future and I’m stoked to have Monster Energy to help me develop as a driver as I chase my dream of one day becoming V8 Supercars Champion.”
Monster Energy will also feature on the car and race suit of 2015 V8 Supercars Champion Mark ‘Frosty’ Winterbottom.
“It’s awesome to see such a massive brand in Monster Energy jump onboard for the 2016 season,” said Winterbottom.
“We’re always looking for the edge both on and off the circuit and what Monster Energy bring to the sport with its legion of fans and action sports style is a real boost for everyone.”
The #6 Monster Energy PRA Ford boasts a massive 5.0-litre V8 Ford engine with a top speed of 299+ kph and 0-100 kph in less than 3.5 seconds producing over 635+ bhp.
In 2016 the V8 Supercars Championship will tackle 16 rounds (one non-point scoring) taking crews around Australia as well as two international races in New Zealand and Malaysia.
This weekend the opening round brings teams to Adelaide for the traditional street circuit opener as drivers muscle their way around the 3.2km circuit in 30+ degree heat to the roar of over.
